Vibrantly purple, the Jamun Khadi Kala Cotton shirt is very special to us. It's our first product made with the super sustainable Kala Cotton, an indigenous fabric that's organic by default and has been around since the Indus Valley Civilization! Kala Cotton is grown by a small number of farmers in the semi-arid Kutch region and is a completely rain-fed crop - unlike conventional cotton, which needs 10,000 litres (or more) of water for just 1 kg cotton. Kala cotton also highly immune to diseases and pests, so it needs no synthetic pesticides. It is hand spun and handwoven into fabric by local Kutch weavers. This Khadi shirt will be a truly special gift for dad - a piece of heritage, and a step towards a climate-resilient future :)

This fabric is woven completely by hand, and no electronic machines were harmed in the process :) Weaving is the interlacing of threads perpendicular to each other. The vertical thread is called the warp or tana and the horizontal thread is called the weft or bana.  Plain weaves start with 2 sets of thread, and complicated weaves can have as many as 400 sets of threads!
