Firoja is an enthusiastic 20-year old passionate about weaving. Our relationship with her is pretty special :)
Where is he from:: Bijoynagar, Assam
What crafts does he specialize in: Handwoven
What he likes doing the most: Weaving
Our relationship with Firoja is special, she is our first (hopefully of many!) woman artisan partner, and we are her first client :). Firoja belongs to a small village near Bijoynagar, Assam. After school, she enrolled in a B.A course for a while, but could not complete due to personal reasons. She then decided to take up the family profession of weaving. Initially, she was scared, having her mother by her side really encouraged her. In fact, she loves weaving alongside her mother, who is also a skilled artisan.
Firoja has been trained by Tata Trust's Antaran Transforming Arts program. Before she started weaving, Firoja says she used to spend most of her time playing on her phone. Now, her work gives her happiness, and also earnings! Firoja wants to be financially independent and is saving part of her earnings for the future. She is excited to get more orders once she is done with ours :).
